What’s New in Lipid Therapies? Communication and Conversations in Cardiopulmonary Rehab

Thursday, May 7 | 12-1 p.m. CT

Presented by: Paul Oh, MD, MSc, FRCPC, FAACVPR

There are a number of new lipid modifying agents (e.g., bempedoic acid, injectable and oral agents that modify PCSK9, treatments for lipoprotein(a), and gene therapies) along with a recently updated national dyslipidemia management guidelines that inform this important therapeutic area. Patients and clinicians often have questions: How these medications work? Why they are beneficial? What is my treatment goal? What about side effects and interactions? How long do I take them? This webinar will provide an update on the key recommendations for secondary prevention as per the 2026 ACC/AHA/AACVPR Guideline on the Management of Dyslipidemia, and an overview of clinical studies and pharmacologic actions of novel lipid therapies. A number of practice changes in the rehab setting related to ascertaining and managing suboptimal risk control (e.g., identifying LDL-C above target, addressing poor adherence to medication, or an education opportunity) will be explored, with the goal that each participant will be able to identify at least one action to incorporate into future care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. State the LDL-C and non-HDL-C targets for secondary prevention as per the 2026 ACC/AHA/AACVPR Guideline on the Management of Dyslipidemia
  2. Name at least 4 therapies that can be added to a statin to lower LDL-C
  3. Plan at least 1 practice change related to ascertaining and managing suboptimal risk control (e.g., identifying LDL-C above target, addressing poor adherence to medication, or an education opportunity)
